The WIM Series continues to be the premier NORBA sanctioned Mountain Bike Race
Series in the Pacific Northwest. The WIM Series is for all ages and ability
levels. Come and enjoy the outdoors, have fun with friends and compete in a
great environment. 4 Cross Country (XC) and 3 Downhill (DH) Races will make up
the WIM Series for 2005.
WIM events include
|
| CROSS COUNTRY(XC) |
| Like pedaling your mountain bike uphill as well as flying
downhill? Like going the distance? Cross Country racing not only tests your
skill, but also your endurance! Beginners can expect to pedal for about an
hour, Sports an hour and a half and Pro/Experts upwards of 2 hours, |
Special XC Categories:
First Timers category is a new category for the WIM Series this
year. If you have never raced with us before, come join the fun, no pressure.
We will discount your race fee and you will have your very own category to
start in. Your competition will be riders just like you who have never raced
before. The XC First Timers will start just behind the beginners. There will be
no age breakdowns in this category; but we will split male and female. Once
you’ve raced as a First Timer, you will move up with the beginners. From there
you will be on your own to move on up in the world of Mountain Bike Racing.
Look out World Cup, here we come!
Clydesdale Category: 190lbs + (men XC only) subtract 15 seconds
off your time for every pound over the minimum weight.
Collegiate Category: To be in this category you must be a full
time student at a college that has a cycling team and is registered with USA
Cycling. This category is for collegiate riders to gain points towards
collegiate nationals. Entering a collegiate category will automatically put you
into the 19-29 age group in that category (i.e. Collegiate B will also be
scored as a sport 19-29). For a particular event you will get scored in
collegiate and the 19-29 group for daily awards. You will get series points in
the 19-29 age class, but there will be no overall series collegiate awards.
Single Speed: One bike, one gear, one long way to go.
Downhill Cross Country: This is for the downhiller who wants to
participate in the cross country. Our resident Downhill Cross Country champion,
Michael Lawrence, has taken time to update the rules for this class: 1) No lock
outs on the forks or the shocks 2) 12 inches of combined travel 3) 35 pounds
minimum weight 4) Any size front chain ring, but only one may be used, those
with triple or double rings will be forced to lock out the additional rings 5)
All riders bikes must pass tech inspection prior to the race 6) No visible
lycra or spandex clothing!!!
Shimano Kids Race
Keeping with the tradition, at every WIM Series XC race, we will hold a Free
Kids Race, sponsored by the Shimano youth Series.
The Youth Series was designed to give children an opportunity to compete like
their parents in a positive and fun environment. The Youth Series is free to
children ages 12 & under. Kids receive a t-shirt, stickers, extra goodies,
a number plate, and a shiny new gold medal. Parent participation is encouraged
for the youngsters who can barely ride themselves, while the older categories
provide excitement any race fan can enjoy. The key ingredients in the Shimano
Youth Series are sportsmanship and fun! All the kids are winners!

| DOWNHILL |
| What a Rush! This is a gravity sport-you start at the top of a
mountain and race to the bottom, one rider at a time. Like the XC there is a
class for all ages and abilities. Race on courses with tight singletrack,
technical rock drops, screamin’ fast open roads, along with other awesome and
unique obstacles. Upon suggestions from our riders, we have made some changes
to the Downhill Series that you will want to be aware of. We have reversed the
starting order. Beginners will start off the action and we will end with the
Pros. And practice times have been split between categories. This is for safety
and shuttle reasons. While this probably won’t give you more practice time, you
will spend less time in line waiting for shuttles. |
|
| WIM FINALS |
| For the WIM Series finals you will accumulate points that will
go towards your overall standings. Riders must participate in 4 XC and/or 3 DH
races including the finals to qualify for the overall title. |
|
| OPEN CATEGORY |
| Open category is for anyone wishing to race against the
Pro/Semi-pro category regardless of their own age or category. Racers choosing
to race in the open category will pay the Pro/semi-pro fees and be eligible for
cash awards at all races. There will be no overall cash category award at the
WIM finals. There are no points given other than Pro or Semi-pro in this
category. |
